Replenishment of liquids is important in preventing deep-vein thrombosis, a condition that threatens travelers on long-haul flights. In collaboration with a commercial airline, OPC chartered a flight to perform comparative experiments to check the differences in fluid absorption for different type of beverages. The results of these experiments were published in the February 20, 2002 issue of the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA). OPC provides information on ways to reduce the risk of deep-vein thrombosis among travelers and has produced a booklet explaining the loss of body fluids on long-haul flights and the use of ion drinks to maintain a healthy fluid balance in-flight.
To encourage children to take an interest in their bodies and in health and nutrition, OPC began publishing the "OTSUKA Health Comic Library" series. Initially published in 1989, these books are donated to junior high schools and public libraries around the country, and to Japanese schools around the world. By 2004, the 16th year of this program, a cumulative total of approximately 1.2 million copies of the series had been published.

OPC is committed to preserving the sporting spirit and to contributing to the healthy development of sports. Convinced that competition in the spirit of fairness is the key to the development of sport, OPC supports the work of the Japan Anti-Doping Agency (JADA) in the fight against the use of illicit drugs to improve performance.
Our Tokushima Itano Factory was established in 1999 in the Asan Industrial Park at the foot of the forest-clad Asan mountain range of eastern Shikoku. The area around the plant has been landscaped in keeping with the natural surroundings, with broad-leaf trees and expansive lawns and a clear-running stream feeding a biotope pond. The pond re-uses cooling waters from the plant and is home to lively fish of several species.
Every year the Tokushima Itano Factory also participates in an "Adopt Program" as part of its efforts to improve the environment. This program was inaugurated in 2000 in support of the volunteer group Green Itano 21's Campaign to Beautify the Town of Itano and Its Environs. Four times a year, employees spend their lunch breaks weeding and cleaning the roads within the precincts of the Asan Industrial Park.

Our Tokushima Wajiki Factory was built in 1989 in a factory park designed to harmonize with nature. Surrounded by greenery, the park's outdoor stage and expansive plaza are open to the public as part of our efforts to integrate our facilities into the local community and the natural environment.
In collaboration with the Wajiki Junior Chamber of Commerce, an annual rock concert entitled "Exciting Summer in Wajiki" is held on the outdoor stage at the factory park. Popular rock artists are invited and many people from near and far come to enjoy the music in natural surroundings. The first of these concerts, organized in partnership with local businesses, took place in 1990 and the 16th was held in 2004.

The clinic is staffed by four doctors, as well as a pharmacist and nurses, who offer treatment to patients free of charge. Since opening, it has cared for an average of 300 patients a day, mainly women and children, dealing predominantly with pulmonary, gynecological and gastro-intestinal problems.
